South Africa presents many opportunities for international food & beverage buyers across Russia and Eastern Europe. In fact, there is an abundance of South African produce during the Northern Hemisphere winter, not only of world-class quality, but also at a fraction of the cost of European products. In the last 9 years general trade from South Africa to Russia grew by 170% from ZAR 2,028 million in 2010 to ZAR 5,481 million in 2019.
In the last few years, in particular food and beverage exports increased from ZAR 70.91 million to ZAR 97.45 million. Head of Food and Agriculture at The Russia-South Africa Business Council, Mr. Mikhail Fateev stated in 2019: “The Russian market is open for more South African food products. There is a big demand for the South African products here, but like anywhere in the world, the South African companies need to up their ante with regards to their marketing efforts. They need to establish relations with the right people here and their rate of success will be increased”. Wesgro, through this virtual event program, aims to support these efforts by opening direct channels between producers and buyers.
